There is immense grief and despair, but it also gives birth to hope and the power to bring change. The prevailing dire situation in Afghanistan has motivated the young women to embark on the important mission of reducing the number of women and children who die in pregnancy and childbirth in Afghanistan, by educating themselves to midwives. It illustrates that the villagers in Afghanistan are now defying the tradition and willing to send girls for education in order to address the problem at hand.

The book is poignant and painful where mothers, sisters, husbands, daughters and sons tell about their fate and grief when their near ones suddenly disappear. The book is based on facts and is apolitical but contributes significantly to the debate about security in Afghanistan. It seems that the loss of thousands of Afghan women every year is an issue which is getting the least attention.
