The Environmental situation in Afghanistan

Most of the Afghans are dependent on nature for survival and subsistence, but yearsof war and conflict have destroyed most of the environmental resources.

  • In Afghanistan, over 80% of the population is dependent on natural resources for their living and survival.
  • 400 000 Afghans are affected annually by natural disasters such as landslides, droughts and floods.
  • Afghanistan's natural resources are damaged to an extent now that living condition of animals and humans is in precarious situation and the environmental problems need to be solved as a part of the reconstruction.
